When my younger brother Ravi was diagnosed with leukemia, our family was shattered. He was just 19, full of dreams, ready to take on life. We had no history of cancer, no preparation, and certainly not enough resources to handle what came next.
Our parents were devastated. I watched my strong, happy brother transform into a scared, fragile version of himself. The hospitals were overwhelming, the tests endless, and the bills horrifying. We tried everything we could, but nothing seemed enough.
I found FIGHT AGAINST CANCER while searching for help online at 3 a.m., desperate and exhausted. I still remember the calm, kind voice on the other end of the call. What I got in return was beyond expectation. They walked us through treatment options, provided us with a care coordinator, and even covered travel for his chemo sessions.
They gave us emotional counseling, connected us with other families in the same fight, and never once made us feel like a burden. Ravi is in recovery now, and every day he grows stronger. He recently started college again, something we feared would never happen.
I’ve promised myself I’ll never stop sharing this story. Because if even one family finds the support we did, it’s worth everything.
